I don’t seem to have had the time to write lately. I think this is because although Winter is gradually giving way to Spring and I am still knee deep in woolly creativity, I am also beginning to get the allotment clear again for the new gardening year which I love. Seeds are hopefully winging their way to me in the post and I am awash with the annual excitement of imagining a lush productive piece of land. Oh how optimism can erase the memories of previous disastrous growing seasons. After last year I really should have turned the land over to paddy fields but am planning squash beans, garlic, potatoes and beetroot etc as usual.
Sadly, since I have not won the lottery and still have to be a wage slave, there hasn’t been much time for writing. I always feel very torn between my activities at the weekends and probably try to cram too many in. Today I have managed two hours gardening and will hopefully managed two hours woolly playtime too. I did do two hours housework as well so am feeling quite pious. Ironing, washing, hoovering and then weekly soup-making was the sum of my domestic goddess-ness today.
Anyway, I have been messing about making crochet squares for the past few weeks as I have joined in with a ‘Crochet-A-Long’ (CAL) on Ravelry. It is a good opportunity to try out some new patterns but it has shown me that I am more of a planner than I realised as I am finding it a little stressful not knowing what patterns are going to be presented in the next 10 months. I have a feeling that I will end up with a lot of different blankets as some squares seem to go well together and others I am less enamored of. Here are some of the squares so far:
This colours of this set remind me of sugared almonds. I am quite taken with the snowflakes and actually sought out more snowflake patterns to complement these first squares rather than putting them with the other blocks chosen for the CAL. If you want more information on these blocks please visit Ravelry as they are not my original patterns but they are (at the moment) freely available on the internet.
and there’s more, I am a tad obsessed right now:
This last one is a nice block to construct but I am not keen on how it sits with the other blocks so far. Hopefully it will gain some companions and a purpose in life later in the year. There is also this square which seems a little lost too partly as it has finished a lot bigger than the others. I know it would make a wonderful blanket but not, for me, with the above squares.
Ribs and Lace
Right got to get back to the crochet now, these squares don’t make themselves!
